First days of #Ayerstotallywickedroadtrip2016

And so, it begun. The ultimate roadtrip West.

With Rachel's help, the Ayers women have mastered selfies. Within the first day, well really minutes, we learned that the Old guy, doesn't need a million photos taken of him. Aka, one is enough, possibly too many. So many adventures, so many photos, so many laughs & memories to fit into a decent length post that you might actually read, but here goes nothing!

This perfectly describes everyones roles.

Day 1:

We hit the road from Pflugerville, TX (Yes, that is spelt correctly… Weird Texas people). There was LOTS of driving involved (I know, obviously.. it is a roadtrip afterall), so this may get kinda repetitive. The Ayers gang headed towards North West Texas by way of Abilene & Amarillo... or at least attempted to make it there. Morning of it clicked that my friend Holli lives in Abilene & the Old Man remembered a juicy, delicious burger joint. Excellent pit stop! Holli & I haven't seen each other in close to 3 years when we each left Japan.

Afterwards, we hit the road in attempt to make it to Amarillo, but fell short. In the Texas Plains we hit a major Texas thunderstorm. MAN! Was it worth it. The storm was gorgeous & the FULL, double rainbow was once in a lifetime site! We ended up pulling over a State Trooper who finally stopped at looked at the beautiful sky. She ended up hanging around few minutes taking pictures with us.

A beautiful Texas storm.
Other notes: We established that Paradise By The DashboardLight by Meatloaf was THE roadtrip song & that every morning it had to be played. Only state we were in was Texas… Ughhh, why is Texas so big?!

Day 2:

FIRST TOURIST STOP! We made it to CADILLAC RANCH! It’s located on the outskirts of Amarillo, built in the 70’s to display the timeline of the Cadillac car. The stuck the fronts of the car in the ground & now bring something to tag them with… I’m positive they are held together by spray paint. Cool & free stop if you’re ever that direction. On our way here, we pulled over our 2nd State Trooper because my dad couldn't figure out how to drive my precious car. Which was appropriately named on this trip.. Harvey. Get it.. Harvey the HR-V. Kudos to Momma Ruth for the name.

We took I-40 from Amarillo. We saw a Happy, Texas… The town name alone makes me want to live there! Historic Route 66 follows along that interstate. We stopped in Tucumcari, New Mexico thinking it was going to have some awesome sites, buuuuuut… Not really. Just keep driving or stop in Santa Rosa for the Blue Holes instead.

Otherwise, was a lot of ground to be covered. Our goal was to make it to Northern New Mexico that night. We made that goal, going through Albuquerque, pretty landscape & then into Bloomsfield, New Mexico.

State count: Texas & New Mexico

Day 3:

OMG. OMG. OMG. We hit my #2 Bucket List Item!!! THE FOUR CORNERS (Monument). I was a badass in FOUR places at once. You’re probably thinking, “Out of all the things in the world, why is this #2?!” Well, time travel is cool & when I was a kid I wanted to be in 4 places at once.. hence, bucket list location.

Four Corners Monument - Check!

Errrpppehhhh… Rewind! Before hitting the Monument, we drove up to Durango, Colorado. On the way there, I remember that Stewie lived there! So, once again I got to see a good friend along the way. Okay, back to after the Four Corners.

New Love for Utah: I cannot wait to go back to Utah & explore! All around us on the drive was natural beauty. The rocks were formed gorgeously & made you wonder, “How the heck did those get that way?!” We took way of Bluff, Utah (which wasn’t much) thru Monument Valley. Make that drive. It’s breath taking. My next vacation will most likely be to explore the National Parks in Utah… Bryce Canyon, Antelope, Arches, Zion... Just to name the bigger parks.

"I'm pretty tired, I think I'll go home now." -Forrest Gump. Where he ended his long run.

*On this day, Momma Ruth realized there are several times 2 states touch... she was completely serious too... (she’s a natural blonde). *

Record amount of states in one day: New Mexico, Colorado, Utah & Arizona. AND, not just by way of the 4 Corners, but actually stopping, exploring & enjoying.

Truth be told, day 3 alone should have it's own post. It was beyond gorgeous the entire way. I didn't know how beautiful this part of the US was, but now I'm planning so many trips to go back.

As always, stay tuned for more on my Sweet & Sour Life.
